Beginnings

The first day....

Bay Road Pickleball started on November 12, 2016 when someone volunteered to teach pickleball to all comers at the Bay Road Tennis Club and Multisport Center and about a dozen new players showed up.  With each passing week, more joined.  By the spring of 2017, the group neared 50 participants and summer outdoor play was organized at the Hampshire College outdoor tennis courts.  The number of players continued to grow and by the summer of 2018, with the roster reaching nearly 130 players, summer meetings were held to start organize equipment, lessons, types of play, and lines of communication.  A volunteer board of 12 players met throughout the 2018-19 indoor season to organize the growing group.  The following indoor season, 2019-20, a volunteer board of 21 organized play.  With the onset of Covid, play suspended and throughout the following two seasons, a number of volunteers worked to provide various playing opportunities.  With decreased risks for Covid and better precautions, playing opportunities opened up and the latest iteration of group leadership formed with a board of nine volunteers, with a focus on committees.
